The Leland Habitat for Humanity affiliate operates in the City of Leland, Mississippi, with a
population of approximately 5,000 people.  LHFH has been building modest, affordable homes
since 1995.  28 homes have been completed since incorporation.  Work on House #29
has begun.

Veleray Mitchell Dedication
On a cold January day friends and family came out to dedicate Veleray Mitchell's new home. Seed money for House 28 came from families in Michigan and New Hampshire. Additional funds came from generous donations by United Way of Washington County, Rotary and Lions Clubs, G-BABE, 9 local churches, and more than 80 people who made donations make this house a reality. However, the generosity of all those folks was still not quite enough and we are grateful for the $10,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund. Thanks to the local employees at D&PL and Monsanto who nominated us for the grant!

Future Plans

Thanks to Muffy and Andy Hammond of Apple Valley, Minnesota!!  They gave a wonderful gift in memory of Andy's mother, Martha Hammond, which provided us with the opportunity to continue building houses in our community.

Leland Habitat for Humanity has purchased additional property in the "New Town" community of Leland on Third and McGee Streets, and Collier Alley.  There is enough property to build 12 new homes.  We are planning for these homes now, and will build over the next several years.

There were 13 shacks torn down (which recently had families living in them).  The property has had plats made for each new house site.  Click here for pictures.

Leland Habitat needs your help in building these homes!!

Click here to see the shacks being removed and
the progress on clearing the property and preparing house lots.
