The Leland Garden Club
joined forces with homeowner Frances Tuitt
and the Care-A-Vanners to do some landscaping
around Frances' home.

AFTER

Construction begins on House #24
Homeowner:  Frances Tuitt
123 McGee Street

Concrete needs to broken out at the location of
the new driveway.  Brian "mans" the jack.

This is Frances' opportunity to work "from the ground up
on her new home.  The foundation is being dug.

Dirt needs to be moved around on the lot, and a tractor
is a good tool to use.  Davis and Bernie manage this work..

Sometimes we just fool around.
Once the foundation dig is complete, the
concrete is poured and allowed to "set".

The Leland Mennonite Church is ready to begin
construction on September 17 during
"Building On Faith" program.

By early-morning, the walls are going up.

Homwowner Frances Tuitt and daughter, Regina, are working on
installation of the OSB board on the outside.

At Noon, lunch is served to the work team by the
Mennonite Church women..

By mid-afternoon, the OSB, trusses, decking, and roofing
paper are installed.  Amazing!!

By the end of the day, the house is takikng shape.  Thanks
to the Leland Mennonite Church crew for a job well done!!.

Next week, September 24, Laura Gardner and student group from Indianola High School attend to volunteer their time.

The Leland affiliate re-uses many of the stakes and boards
used for forming the foundation.  These students are

removing nails in the forms and preparing them for re-use.

On the outside, the OSB is prepared for "blue board".

Inside work is completed by students too.

The blue board is in place, and dirt is moved away from
the house and smoothed down.

Frances and her sister, along with Regina work on the opposite side
of the house and prepare the windows fo framing..

Thanks to the Indanola High School student group.
They completed a LOT of work and we are making

great progress on the house.

Thanks to a great group of Cre-A-Vanners, the siding
goes up quickly and work gets completed inside.

Church groups worked during the months of October
and November and got a lot accomplished on the build.

Insulation is istalled before Sheetrock can go up.

Student teams visited the site and helped build.

Care-A-Vanners Donna and Owen Elmer.  Thanks for your
great assistance!!

Charles Bush and Jack Spagenberger were great help too!

Our great friend Rosemary Anderson and her husband Pete
(in the background).  What great help they were.

Sheetrock goes up on the inside.

Work continues with Bernie's help.

Ralph Baker and Hugh Bailey begin window framing.

Shaun Hamilton finds painting to be fun and spattering!

Nacer Bellalouie works on ceiling paint.

During March Care-A-Vanners and college teams
came to volunteer their time on construction.

Thanks go to our Vanderbilt University team!

The house nears completion.  Even the shutters are up!!

The time for the house dedication has come, and
look how excited and happy they are!

Happiness is here inside standing on the
new floor!

Another Leland Habitat house completed!
